Roughly 50 cars have been smeared with what appears to be blood from a person in the Germany's city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.
Automobiles, building surfaces and postboxes were defaced, occasionally with swastikas, they announced in a release.
Police report they were alerted during the night on Wednesday night, when a man noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued substance.
The substance had been applied in the form of a banned symbol, they stated.
Officers then located multiple other smeared vehicles and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation banning the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials report initial examinations indicate the liquid was likely human blood.
"Currently there is no clue as to where it came from; investigators are presently not cognizant of any physical harm in connection with the incident," they stated.
City officials announced they were attempting "to solve the case" and have asked to the public for tips.
A high-ranking representative commented the vandalism rendered him stunned and had to be addressed rapidly.
"This act strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the right-wing terrorist attack half a decade ago," he stated on online, mentioning the killing of nine individuals by a shooter targeting individuals of immigrant origin in five years prior.
